CHARNOKI
REV. JOHN J.
Age 82, died Mon. Sept. 29, 2003 at St. John Vianney, Crafton. Born March 6, 1921, in Palmer, PA to Slovak immigrants George & Elizabeth Richnvasky Charnoki. He was a graduate of St. Procopius College, Lisle, IL & received in B.A. and M.A. from St. Vincent Seminary in 1943. He was ordained for the Diocese of Pittsburgh by the late Bishop Hugh C.Boyle at St.Vincent Archabbey Church, Latrobe on November 4, 1945. His first parish in which he served as Parochial Vicar was St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Canonsburg from Dec. of 1945 to Feb. 1948. He served eight other parishes until his last pastorate at the former St. Luke Parish now Ave Maria Parish Bentleyville from Jan 26, 1983 to Feb. 4, 1994. Father Charnoki retired June 20, 1994 He celebrated his 50th Anniversary of his ordination on Nov. 5, 1995. Surviving are four nephews - Joseph Prelesnik, Msgr. William G. Charnoki, Joseph J. Charnoki, and Andrew M. Charnoki; three nieces Elizabeth Richnavsky, Mildred Campean & Anne Lessick; and several great-nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by a sister Mary Prelesnik & five brothers Stephen Charnoki, George Charnoki, Joseph J. Charnoki, Sr. & Rev. Andrew J. Charnoki & Edward Charnoki; also a nephew John J. Charnoki; and three nieces, E. Barbara Brown, Mary Schafer and Frances Klepper. Visitation will be held Wed. 7-9pm and Thurs. 2-4pm in the LEONARD M. PAVLIC FUNERAL HOMES, INC. 405 Main St. Bentleyville. Translation to Ave., Maria Parish Bentleyville will take place on Thurs. at 6:30pm with a Vigil Mass at 7pm with Msgr. William Charnoki as celebrant. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Fri., at 10am at Ave Maria Parish, Bentleyville with the Most Reverend William J. Winter, Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh, as Principal Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Luke Cemetery, Bentleyville.
